ENERGY NEUTRALITY & SUSTAINABILITY
We kick off the conference from multiple points of view?
  • What defines the DOD agenda on energy?
  • What have they learned from their investments?
  • What goals have they set as the DOD turns Wright-Patterson AFB into a net-zero facility?
The industry point of view takes a look at the lessons learned from decade-long experiences of a major US manufacturer for managing energy and maintaining the bottom line. We then examine the business impact of carbon legislation made by an industry leader as they try to sustain competitiveness by managing the costs of feed stocks and power used for operations world-wide.

ENERGY NETWORK RELIABILITY & SECURITY
The morning session starts to look at the strategy behind the DOD energy plans with special emphasis on security of energy networks comprising all forms of power used today and those power sources anticipated to come online in the near term. Integration of multiple power resources to meet critical demand plays a large role in assuring abundant supply and uninterrupted operations for the DOD and industry. The industry perspective is provided by commercial innovators of mobile nuclear power generation modules for distributed power applications and by large scale operators of major electrical power generation, transmission and distribution networks in the eastern US.

ENERGY ALTERNATIVES
Alternative fuels have great potential to lower costs and reduce harmful emissions from DOD operations. We will hear from the DOD R&D leaders developing alternative fuels derived from fossil resources and biomass as the DOD meets their commitment to move a significant part of their energy consumption to alternatives before 2012. Major companies adding to their energy portfolio with commercial enterprises in biomass, solar and wind will provide their perspectives on the challenges of bringing alternative energies to market and integrating them with current energy sources.

ENERGY LEADERSHIP IMPLEMENTATION ROADMAP
The last leadership session focuses on the “how to” issues facing conference participants. What are the policy makers thinking and how can they accelerate industry adoption of innovations? What can we learn from the Europeans and their experiences with carbon legislation? How do we navigate around the roadblocks we face? Can we define the near-term partnership opportunities between DOD and industry and how do we exploit these opportunities? Finally, let’s understand how we want to demonstrate energy leadership for process manufacturing and set the agenda for the next meeting.
